Women’s Link is a friendly social group for lesbian women. Our membership includes women of all ages and from all walks of life.
We organise social events, such as pub nights, meals out, cinema trips and trips away. Our members come from Herts, Beds, Bucks, Cambs and beyond. Our Summer BBQ and Christmas celebrations are regular annual events. Event details are sent out by email.
We also have a fortnightly walking group called ‘Wandering Women’. Members take it in turns to lead walks through the lovely countryside in and around Hertfordshire.
If you are new to the area, have just come out, or just want to make friends, contact us and come along. We know it can be scary coming along to new groups on your own, so we make a special effort to welcome new members, just let us know if you are new and we’ll keep an eye open for you and make sure you will be included.
Membership is free and open to any woman over 18 who identifies as lesbian.
We look forward to welcoming you.
How We Began!
In 1990 a group of women who belonged to South Herts Gay Group, consisting mainly of men, proposed that the time had come to form a group on their own.
On 11th January 1990 a meeting was held, which was attended by 24 women. It was decided that a group known as Women’s Link would be formed which would be open to any woman who identified as a lesbian and was 18 years of age or over.
The objectives were to provide a social forum to help remedy the sense of isolation felt by many lesbians at that time. This was to be achieved by organising regular social gatherings, distributing a regular newsletter and providing a telephone contact to offer information about the group, gay events and gay groups related to social problems.
A committee was elected and in March the first newsletter was produced with a list of events which included 2 pub nights, a social evening, a disco and a play. The rest is history!!
